Carolyn Vaughn has lived the American dream.
As one of eight children raised by a single mom, she worked in the school cafeteria to pay for her meals. In the 10th grade, Carolyn had to drop out to take care of her
brother who has muscular dystrophy. But that didn’t stop Carolyn Vaughn.
She got her GED, went to community college, and, with her husband Gary, raised a family and started a business in Corpus Christi that is now a multi-million dollar energy services company.
Carolyn Vaughn knows the importance of a dollar and the value of hard work. She’s proved it as a member of the Corpus Christi City Council and as a Nueces County Commissioner.
Carolyn was elected to the City Council representing District 1 on Dec.16, 2014 after defeating the incumbent council member in a runoff election. She was re-elected in the general election on November 8, 2016. She stepped down from that position when she was appointed to the Commissioner’s Court on March 14, 2018.
Now she is running for Mayor for City of Corpus Christi. “Like many of you I am tired of high taxes, increasing utility fees and promises that things will get done better and faster if we just keep passing new bond issues,” Carolyn said. “We’ve got to get back to being a city that will listen to its constituents and a city government that gets back to doing what it is supposed to do – provide good basic services, maintain our infrastructure and provide for public safety needs.
Most of all I want a city that keeps its promises – that will be good stewards of taxpayer money and a council that will always remember we work for the people who elected us to office.”
Carolyn knows that the city needs a leader who can not only ensure that the city’s basic needs are met but one who can provide the vision to move Corpus Christi into a future that will benefit all its citizens.
“When I was first elected to city council, I had never run for office
before. I am not a politician, but I do want to be a public servant who can help make life better for the people of Corpus Christi,” Carolyn says. “I will ask the hard questions and when it is the right thing to vote yes, I will vote yes. I also know how to say no to the things that are not good for Corpus Christi, its citizens and its taxpayers.”
For over two decades Carolyn and her husband Gary, have operated a very successful energy services company based in Nueces County. They raised
their family here and their kids attended school here. They attend church in Corpus Christi. Carolyn, who lives in the Calallen area, has been married to her husband Gary for 50 years and they have three grown children, Neisah Renee Havelka, Bradley James Vaughn and Robert Andrew Vaughn. They are the proud grandparents of eight grandchildren and one great granddaughter.
“We started with nothing and built our business with hard work and sweat and a belief that God would bless us for giving back to Him and to our community,” she said. “We have been blessed and now I want to continue to give back to my community by serving as mayor for the city of Corpus Christi.
